About Alchemy

​

Alchemy Home Furnishings was set up by me, Christina Barratt - people call me Chrissy.​  I've always had a lifelong love affair with older properties and the unique charm they hold.  My journey began by studying Restoration of Historic Buildings right after I left school, where I dove into the techniques of bringing the beauty of old buildings back to life.  

​

Over the years, I've lived in my fair share of draughty old houses, and I've learned the art of furnishing them not just for style, but to make them cozy and snug in the Winter months and deflect the heat in the Summer.  My mother taught me to sew when I was just six years old, and as a teenager my favourite days out where spent in the V & A Museum in London.

​

When my children were little I started sewing curtains and blinds for family and friends, right at my kitchen table and that sparked a home furnishings business which is now approaching it's 20th anniversary!

​

As for Alchemy, what truly sets us apart is our deep respect of older properties, and the knowledge of what it's like to live with their quirks.  I myself, live in a listed forge in the the heart of Mid Suffolk, where beams are in awkward places, absolutely nothing is straight, and all the other wonderful foibles which make it our very much loved family home.

​​​​​Now that my children are grown, I have the support of a skilled team of curtain makers, which frees me up to focus on the parts of the job I love the most - working on designs with clients and personally overseeing each installation  Whether we're enhancing a traditional Suffolk cottage or adding character to a contemporary space, every curtain and blind is individually designed and crafted to fit your space perfectly.
